Professional Resume Format and Job Application Guide

A clean resume is the first step to an interview call. Learn the essential sections, the difference between fresher and experienced resumes, and what to check before you apply.
1. Essential resume sections
- Name, phone, email and city (a full home address isn't needed)
- Profile summary — 2-3 lines on who you are and the work you want
- Experience — latest job first, 2-4 achievements each
- Education — degree, institution, year
- Skills — only the ones you really have
- Languages, certificates and projects (if any)
2. Fresher vs experienced
Freshers should put education, projects, internships and skills on top. Experienced people should lead with experience and shorten old school details. Keep it to 1 page (fresher) or 2 pages (experienced).
3. Writing achievements
Write results, not just duties. Instead of “Handled customer complaints”, write “Resolved 40+ customer complaints a day, cutting repeat complaints by 20%”. Use numbers only when they are true.
4. ATS-friendly resumes
Large companies screen resumes with software (ATS) first. Use a simple layout, clear headings and honestly include keywords from the job description (like “Tally”, “Excel”, “Customer Support”). DigiYogi Resume Maker has an ATS-friendly template.
5. Build your resume with DigiYogi
- Create a free account and open Resume Maker.
- Pick a template and fill in your details — add a passport size photo if you like (the ATS template doesn't show photos).
- Write in English or Hindi and check the preview.
- Download the PDF — text and links stay selectable.
6. Sending a job application
- Use a clear file name: Name_Resume.pdf
- Write a short cover message: which role, why you fit, and your phone number
- Adjust the summary and skills for each job
- Recheck spelling, phone number and email before sending
- Follow up politely after a week
Frequently asked questions
Should my resume be in English or Hindi?
Use the language of the job advert. Hindi is fine for government or local jobs; most corporate jobs expect English.
Should I add a photo to my resume?
It's common in India, but for companies using ATS a plain resume without a photo works better.
Do I need an account for Resume Maker?
Yes, so your resume is saved safely and you can edit it later.
