How to Make a Passport Size Photo for Government Exam Forms
Guides· 6 min readहिंदी में पढ़ें
Most online form rejections come from the photo: wrong size, too many KB or a blurry image. This guide shows how to take a good photo, resize it correctly and make a 4×6 print sheet with 8 copies.
1. Read the official notice first
Every exam has its own photo rules. Before filling the form, check these four things in the official notification:
- Photo dimensions (e.g. 3.5 × 4.5 cm or width × height in pixels)
- File size limit (e.g. 20 KB to 50 KB)
- Format — usually JPG/JPEG
- Background colour (usually white or light) and how recent the photo must be
2. Taking the right photo
- Stand in front of a plain, light-coloured wall
- Use daylight and face the window so there are no shadows on your face
- Hold the camera at eye level and look straight ahead
- Remove glasses, caps and shiny jewellery (unless the rules allow them)
- Your face and both ears should be clearly visible, with no blur
3. Size the photo and make a print sheet with DigiYogi
- Open Passport Photo Maker and choose your photo. It stays on your phone or computer — nothing is uploaded.
- The Indian size 35 × 45 mm is selected by default. Pick another size if you need one.
- Centre your face in the frame.
- Under Photo finish choose Natural — it gently corrects colour and light without changing your face.
- Press Download print sheet — you get 8 photos on a 4×6 inch sheet.
- Ask the photo shop to print at 100% / Actual size.
4. Reducing KB for online forms
If the form wants a file under 50 KB, first set the pixel size with Image Resizer, then shrink the file with Image Compressor. Check the result each time so the photo doesn't turn blurry.
5. Common mistakes
- Selfies taken too close — the face looks wider
- Screenshots or photos forwarded on WhatsApp — quality drops
- Filters or beauty mode — many exams can reject the photo
- Signatures have their own size rules; don't treat them like the photo
Frequently asked questions
Does the background colour remove my photo's background?
No. The background colour only fills empty space, so take your photo against a plain light wall.
Is my photo guaranteed to be accepted?
No. Each exam and office has its own rules. Always match the size and conditions to the official notice.
How many photos fit on a 4×6 sheet?
8 photos at 35 × 45 mm (two rows of four).
